Our ambitious and exciting vision is to work at local, national and international levels, leading innovation and sustainable development in agriculture and rural sectors.As the leading provider of agricultural training and education in Scotland, we are seeking to appoint an experienced and enthusiastic herdsperson to join the modern and progressive Barony Campus farm. The position offers the right applicant an opportunity to further develop the dairy herd of 250 Holstein cows. The herd is split with three quarters of the cows being milked through a herringbone parlour and the remainder through a robot. The applicant will also be responsible for rearing of the calves from birth until weaning.The post has a 52 hour week and involves working alternate weekends and carrying out night checks on a rota basis.Expertise in foot trimming and DIY AI would be an advantage. The role will involve providing high quality instruction to students in milk production and livestock husbandry during on farm practical sessions and also working as a member of the farm team to support its commercial operations. Applicants should have high levels of current agriculture expertise, together with a desire to help young people progress in this industry.
