Everyone is affected by the work that Defra does. We deal with a vast range of issues that profoundly impact on people?s lives. We are responsible for England?s environment, our countryside and rural economy, the food and farming sectors and have lead responsibility for protection from a wide range of natural threats and hazards. This is an exciting time to join Defra and its communications team. We have a significant international and European agenda, with as much as 80% of our work impacting across borders. And, further to the vote to leave the EU, we are committed to engage across all of Defra?s sectors and stakeholders, along with the wider public, to shape plans that will deliver genuine and lasting change for food, farming, fishing and the environment once we are outside the EU. The communications team is ambitious about what communications can achieve and we believe in its power to challenge perceptions, change behaviour, build partnerships and make a social and economic difference. By joining the team you would have exposure to the full communications mix: the opportunity to work closely with policy teams, other government departments and a range of external partners to find new and fresh ways of reaching target audiences. About the role: Defra is looking for an experienced content creative to bring our policies to life for social media audiences across different platforms. You?ll be the point of contact between press and policy, using your creative skills and understanding about what works online, to develop and pitch consumer content packages. From press releases to policy announcements, you?ll bring a keen journalistic eye and creative nous to turn the often impenetrable into something useful and engaging for the general public. Working in a high performing, fast paced team creating high quality digital campaigns across the Defra group channel portfolio, you?ll have a good understanding of reaching the right audiences, as well as planning, designing and running appealing campaigns. The post holder will also have practical experience evaluating digital campaigns, and will lead on measuring the success of their products. Job description ? Researching Defra policy and press products to develop consumer content for external platforms ? Planning, creating and delivering compelling digital campaigns using a range of media from videos and animation to graphics and quizzes ? Pitching content ideas to external news and entertainment sites and developing and maintaining positive relationships with those stakeholders ? Supporting delivery of the social media strategy to review and optimise use of Defra?s social media channels including Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Flickr and LinkedIn homepage layout, imagery and links ? Producing in-depth social analyses and reports for each product, giving insight to other colleagues and officials, and using this evidence to inform future activities ? Ensuring digital channels are managed securely in line with best practice in government ? Providing regular research and case studies on the use of emerging digital services, tools, trends and innovations and give feedback on their application for the Defra group
