Job descriptionThe Department for Education (DFE) is one of the largest and highest profile departments in government, managing a wide range of policy through all stages of the education system. In the DFE digital communications team we aim to make all of this work simpler, clearer and easier to find online, by managing and creating engaging web content on GOV.UK and integrating this with wider digital communications. To do this we need a team of content designers with a passion for accuracy, a digital-first mind-set, and the ability to work in an exciting and fast-paced area of government. Successful candidates in these roles will be collaborative team-workers, with a fantastic understanding of all things digital and an ability to create clean, clear and meaningful content based on the needs of our users. Ideally you will have experience in writing content online (including in HTML), an understanding of meeting user needs, and experience of gathering and interpreting data and evidence to help make informed decisions. You will be persuasive, yet open to ideas and new ways of thinking. As a proactive self-starter, you will be comfortable in finding work, and always seeking to improve and develop ways of working. Using these skills, you will build relationships and work in partnership with teams across the department, drawing on expertise within the existing team to create and improve the department?s content on GOV.UK. For the right candidate there will be opportunities to develop your career as part of the digital communications profession. You will also contribute to the work of our Ministerial and Public Communications Division (MPCD), which communicates directly with the public, parliament and professionals about all aspects of DfE business. As an expanding team, future opportunities may also become available for candidates who meet all required criteria but are unsuccessful in this recruitment round. We may also invite candidates who exceed the requirements for these roles to interview for posts as Senior Content Designers (Information Officer), which we are also recruiting. Across both positions, we will be recruiting a total of 8 posts. ? Draft, design and create a range of content for the department ? in line with the Government Digital Service style guide ? for publication on GOV.UK, working in partnership with colleagues across the department to meet the needs of the department and its users ? Work with Government Digital Service and in-house experts to help manage and conduct research into the needs of our users and how they interact with content ? Coordinate and plan projects and workflow across the digital communications team ? Manage and develop the department?s overall GOV.UK presence, working with colleagues across the division and wider department to identify areas for improvement ? Gather data and evidence from sources including Google Analytics to make informed, evidence-led decisions ? Run improvement projects across all of the department?s online content to create tangible improvements, encouraging people to use digital channels and move away from telephone and written contact with DfE ? Develop and run training and provide support/guidance to help deliver digital by default To succeed in one of these roles you will need to have instinctive digital skills, an eye for detail and exceptional writing/editing skills. You will have a natural ability to work with others, using sound judgement, expertise and evidence to offer first class advice and guidance. You will be able to seek constructive outcomes but be willing to compromise where that is beneficial to the process. You will also be an excellent communicator, ideally with editorial expertise and some knowledge of the GOV.UK content management system. You need to demonstrate all the required competencies in your application: ?Implementation?, ?Insight?, ?Ideas?, ?Impact? and ?Managing a Quality Service?. Competencies are taken from both the Government Communications Service competency framework, and the Civil Service competency framework. Candidates who pass the sift will be invited to complete a written test and interview. Here?s a more detailed summary of the competencies you?ll need: Government Communications Service professional competencies: IMPLEMENTATION ?
