The Archers is the BBC?s most famous and popular radio drama series attracting audiences of nearly 5 million. Following outgoing Editor, Huw Kennair-Jones, you will be responsible for ensuring the continued success and further development of this iconic brand, together with skilful leadership of the production team, the cast and the writers.You will look after the day-to-day editorial and managerial leadership of the Birmingham-based Archers team which includes established writers, actors and advisors and, in consultation with Radio 4 and the Head of Audio Drama UK, you will lead the overall story development.  We are looking for someone who will ideally be available to start towards the end of this year.Editor, The Archers reports to the Head of Arts, Documentaries and Drama in Radio & Music Production and is also accountable to the Head of Audio Drama and to Radio 4 for the artistic and creative performance of the programme.The successful candidate will have a proven track record in drama production at a senior level with an established reputation for creating compelling content and demonstrable expertise in leading creative teams.   You will need to be responsive to new ideas and able to establish innovative ways of working in accordance with the creative and practical demands of the series and the BBC?s financial requirements. You?ll need excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills as well as proven ability to manage creative production teams with skill and care.  You will also need experience of managing specialised drama budgets and dealing with finance and copyright issues. You will need to be comfortable with the high profile of The Archers and the unpredictable demands this brings, as well as with being a senior editorial leader committed to the BBC?s and The Archers?
