The University of Sheffield AMRC builds on the success of the original Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre with Boeing, creating a cluster of industry-focused manufacturing R&D centres and supporting facilities.The Integrated Manufacturing Group (IMG) has grown over the last ten years and is expanding further to meet demand from new projects. The post holder will have hands-on experience with some of the most advanced technologies and companies in the world.  Involvement in the Factory 2050 project is a fantastic opportunity to influence the way products are being manufactured and to develop innovative solutions to industrial problems in the UK. The AMRC has secured funding through the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) for several multi-million pound projects involving major aerospace manufacturers such as Airbus, BAE Systems, Spirit AeroSystems, GE, GKN and Bombardier. This means the post holder will have significant interaction with both customers and suppliers. This role involves diverse tasks, including organisation and management of projects, research activity, and problem solving to design and implement ideas in a hands-on environment.The post holder will also build effect relationships internally and externally and have a practical approach, a positive attitude and the communication skills needed to express ideas effectively and update stakeholders on progress.The successful candidate must hold a relevant degree (engineering, design, physics, chemistry, computer science etc.). The post holder will be capable of working alone or in a group to solve engineering problems. The role will include practical shop floor working and well as documenting findings to customers in reports and presentations. Although the role encompasses a number of desired skills training and staff development is a high priorityThe post holder will be required to work within a team of multi-disciplinary engineers requiring CAD skills, mechanical design skills, robotics, programming and controls system knowledge and a general appreciation of experimentation and research for mechanical and electrical engineering projects and problems.   We?re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK.
