What is the purpose of the role?Forming part of the economic regulation department, we are seeking a regulatory compliance manager to lead, monitor and report on our compliance with Ofwat's regulatory requirements. The role is a senior level appointment with a significant degree of influence over the future regulatory direction of the company through policy making, and shaping industry consultations on topics such as the future of markets in the water industry. You will be responsible for ensuring that there are robust policies in place to safeguard regulatory compliance across all company departments. You will also lead external discussions on complex compliance issues with stakeholders such as Ofwat and MOSL. You will have a particular focus on responses to regulatory investigations, compliance with NHH market Codes, and compliance with our company's licence.What makes this role unique?This is an exciting chance to join a high profile team, in a role which provides an overview of the whole company, contributing to developing business responses to regulatory decisions. It is an ideal opportunity for someone looking for exposure to other areas of the business and enjoys interaction with various stakeholders both internally and externally.What will this role involve?Owning the relationship with Ofwat with respect to regulatory compliance and leading the response to regulatory investigations. Leading discussions with Ofwat (and other external bodies as required) on compliance issues, ensuring that the company position is understood and protected. Ensuring that the company has adequate controls in place to ensure regulatory compliance with new market and competition requirements, including wholesale-retail separation and information segregation. Preparing responses to Ofwat and Defra consultations on regulatory compliance and licence issues. Providing a centre of excellence relating to regulatory compliance with the licence and market rules. Being a central source of regulatory expertise on Ofwat's regulations, policies and framework, investigations, case law, and promulgate this throughout the company. Coordinating and attending meetings of the regulatory performance group (RPG) to spotlight potential compliance issues in the business. Providing reports to the head of economic regulation, director of regulation, RPG, executive, and the audit & risk committee as required. Providing specialist advice and/or resources to influence the decision making across departments; providing strategic input into the development of solutions and/or options. Investigating and analysing complex information and understanding and managing the impact on regulatory compliance. Making well-balanced arguments and recommendations to the benefit of the business. Leading & developing the regulatory compliance team.What are we looking for?Do you possess a similar background of compliance / internal auditing, in a regulated environment? Are you a strategic thinker with a sound judgement and keen eye for detail? If the answers are yes, look no further! We are seeking an individual that possesses first class communication and presentational skills and has the ability to communicate complex regulatory issues to non-specialists & to high profile audiences. You will need to have strong numerate and analytical skills, as well as having excellent organisation and project management skills. You will drive continuous improvement and work under pressure in a fast paced environment. Good commercial awareness, proven influencing & negotiation skills and the ability manage a small team of skilled individuals is essential.Thames Water information and salary detailsThis role is based in Reading, only minutes from Reading train station and 25 minutes from London Paddington.
