Job descriptionBackground The Architect?s role is to drive beneficial security change into the business through the development or review of architectures so that they: ? Fit business requirements for security ? Mitigate the risks and conform to the relevant security policies ? Balance information risk against the cost of countermeasures ? Understand the organisation?s environment and the information risks that systems of interest are subject to ? Assist other Architects in the identification of information risks that arise from potential solution architectures ? Propose alternate architectures or countermeasures to mitigate risks from initial solution architectures ? Assist with the secure configuration of ICT systems in compliance with the intended architecture The Security Architect is accountable, from inception to implementation, for DVSA?s IT security architecture. The Security Architect is responsible for both the creation and then the subsequent maintenance of integrated security architecture and for ensuring the enterprise security architecture is implemented through the IT design, build and delivery development life cycle. This includes, but is not limited to data, compute, traditional & cloud infrastructure. Reporting to the Head of Information Management and Security, the Security Architect acts as a custodian of IT security requirements within DVSA and is accountable for constructing the Agency?s technical security framework. The role holder will architect, design and oversee the build and implementation of IT systems across the agency ensuring that they deliver an appropriate level of security. The role will support the Security Architecture framework and ensure it is up to date. As a Security Architect the role holder will be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and able to demonstrate authority in their field and deliver their accountability for maintaining the security of DVSA?s (the agency) IT systems. The role holder must be able inform the information security risk posture associated with security control architectures, thereby supporting the wider information assurance community during the Authority to Operate process for DVSA systems, services and applications. The role holder must represent DVSA by participating in discussions and decision making which influences the Department for Transport, on security matters and with other Government departments; and in particular the Cabinet Office and NCSC ? HMG?s National Technical Authority for Information Assurance. Whilst the Security Architect does not have direct financial or budgetary accountability, the design and performance of IT security has significant and far reaching business implications. IT security breaches or poor security architecture could potentially have significant financial implications (multi million). Essential Criteria: Essential Technical Skills: The role holder must be able to demonstrate a deep working knowledge in one or more of the following; ? OWASP ? TLS / SSL ? PKI ? Network security ? Cloud security ? RBAC ? IAM ? Federated Security Models ? MS AD ? SIEM ? Mobile Device Management ? In particular the candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge of the application of security structures in AWS cloud Architectures Essential Non - Technical Skills: ? The ability to influence, build and maintain strong working relationships with vendors and stakeholders at a senior level in order to achieve successful outcomes for the business. Essential Experience: ? Experience of working in a medium / large organisation. Desirable Experience: ? Experience of working with AWS implementations (Web, Application, Data and Network) ? Experience of working with mobile IT systems ? Working knowledge of firewalls, switches, wired and wireless networking and other physical and virtual network constructs
