Student Mentor - Perm/Full Time - Location TBC As one of the largest and most successful further education colleges in Europe, The Manchester College provides education and training to a wide range of learners and clients across the City of Manchester and beyond. The mission of the college is to deliver a high quality, inclusive and comprehensive curriculum, in an accessible and flexible way The Manchester College is based at many sites across the city: from Moston and Harpurhey in the North to Wythenshawe and West Didsbury in the South, as well as several locations in the city centre. Each site has its own specialist, cutting edge facilities and resources within a friendly and supportive atmosphere. With this in mind we are currently recruiting for a Student Mentor for the Sport, Public Services &Care Professionals Department to embed College tutorial processes and monitor their effectiveness to ensure that departmental students receive the highest standard of support, advice and guidance. Key responsibilities but not limited to are as follows: -Utilise effective processes to support students in being successful, to improve attendance and punctuality and support overall retention of students. -Planning and delivering of mandatory tutorial -Ordering induction and auditing mandatory tutorial -Communicate effectively with parents/guardians and external agencies in regard to the students. -Participate in robust audit of tutorial systems. -Identify, through communication with subject tutors, parents, guardians and external agencies, at-risk students. -Offer and provide pastoral support and guidance for academic and personal issues. -Offer and provide advice and guidance on courses and to aid progression. -Make referrals to appropriate support services and communicate with appropriate external agencies. -Liaise with academic and vocational staff to ensure effective communication and information flow. Qualifications, skills and experience: -Level 3 qualification in the relevant area -Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths -Experience of working with young people -Excellent communication skills Please do note, interviews are to be held on 15th May 2017.
