Over 3 million people in England have been diagnosed with diabetes, with a further estimated 500,000 undiagnosed cases. An estimated 5 million people are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes, with that number rising every year.Diabetes is a major contributor to causes of premature mortality such as heart disease, stroke and kidney failure, with at least 22,000 avoidable deaths attributed to diabetes every year. As well as the human cost, Type 2 diabetes costs the NHS £8.8 billion every year, almost 9% of its budget. NHS England (London Region) is seeking to recruit a project support officer to support the NHS Diabetes Programme. The post holder must be a self-starter who will be able to co-ordinate projects that support delivery of the Diabetes Programme. This role includes support to the regional lead for the implementation of the Diabetes Prevention and Treatment and Care Programmes. Successful applicants should be able to engage and work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders - in acute, primary and community care, commissioners, public health and the voluntary sector. Deployment of strong administration skills in a fast paced environment is essential.
